Originally this served as a children’s magazine illustration, about a boy who sailed off the coast of Noank, Connecticut during the 1930’s. Ironically, I too, had sailed off the Connecticut coast in my youth during the 1960’s. Having first-hand knowledge of sailing and Long Island Sound certainly gives the painting more authority. The ‘Cloud, Boat and Wave’ elements were inspired by block prints from the Art’s & Craft’s period in America.
